The Makers
The Van Gils brand has been around for 67 years. It was founded after the Second World War and started out with clothes manufacturing before it expanded and became an international fashion brand for men.
Miel Van Gils officially handed the reins over to his children in 1980, but he still kept control in the background. In the 1990’s, the company was in serious financial trouble and an external party jumped in and purchased the company. The Van Gils family lost control over the company back then and has not regained it since.
Nevertheless, that has not been the end of the family business as Miel’s children (Alwin, Ben and Jacques) decided to pursue other paths in the fashion business under the ‘The Masters’ brand name. Miel Van Gils was also involved in that project.
