Børneloppen, a Danish chain that specialises in second-hand children’s items, is opening its second Belgian store in Waterloo. Further expansion in Belgium, and into the Netherlands and Sweden, is planned next.
200 stands
After opening its first Belgian store in Fléron (Liège) in 2021, local franchiser Cassandre Jouret has a taste for more. On 24 August, she will open Børneloppen’s second Belgian store will open along the Chaussée de Bruxelles in Waterloo. “You do not often get an opportunity like this, and no other location can match the one we found”, Jouret says.
It is only the third store outside Denmark for the chain (following one in Iceland). Børneloppen uses the principle of consumer-to-consumer (C2C) sales: individuals can rent a stand or clothes rack to sell their own items. The chain handles sales and customer service, while proceeds from the sale are deposited into the seller’s account. The new store will accommodate about 200 such stands.
Originally, Jouret’s business plan envisioned four to five Belgian stores by 2023, but she was forced to move slower. However, Børneloppen continues to aim for further expansion in Belgium – as well as the Netherlands. Soon, the franchise chain will also launch in Sweden.
