In the hard-fought pet shop market, smaller challengers seem to be winning out over the incumbents in Belgium. One player achieved more than remarkable growth last year.

Upward trend

Over the past four years, shoppers’ visits to pet shops rose sharply. Remarkably, the visit share of market leaders such as Aveve and Tom & Co stagnated during this period, while challengers such as Maxi Zoo, Horta and Poils & Plumes did manage to attract more visitors. The German challenger in pet food has experienced remarkable growth in Belgium in recent years, and is one of the biggest winners in the market in terms of visits.
