On Friday, the company court gave the green light for the takeover of a total of 74 Belgian Bristol stores by Chaussea, Schoenen Torfs, Pronti and TEDi. This will save some 250 jobs.
Major blow
French shoe chain Chaussea, a price player, strikes a big blow in Belgium, with the acquisition of 62 former Bristol stores. The retailer, which already operates about 20 shops in Belgium, offered 2 million euros, plus 10% of the net purchase price of the stock present in the shops, reports Het Belang Van Limburg. The list of the acquired shops is not yet known.
Schoenen Torfs is taking over the shop in Houthalen. Pronti, the retail brand of Brussels-based Redisco, is buying the store in Blankenberge. German non-food discounter TEDi managed to get its hands on ten Walloon branches. In Wallonia, legislation on shop premises only makes a distinction between food and non-food: the discounter can therefore occupy the premises without having to apply for a new licence. This would have been more difficult for premises in Flanders, real estate agent Michael Jansen, who advised the German chain, told RetailDetail
