43,000 animals per year
Hermès launched its own crocodile breeding program to limit the waiting list for certain types of handbags and accessories, but a PETA investigation now shows that these animals are raised in horrendous conditions, with way too many packed into areas that are too small. They are also killed after a mere three years, while crocodiles and alligators in the wild have a lifespan that is beyond that of the average human.
To make matters even worse, some 43,000 animals are killed every year in truly horrible ways. Hermès says it collaborates with factories that follow international legislation, but that it will investigate the factories’ conditions.
