Today marks exactly five years since Dutch chain Jumbo opened its first Belgian branch, in Pelt in Limburg. The retailer is making progress and growing faster than the market, says managing director Peter Isaac.
‘Good rhythm’
Jumbo‘s first Flemish branch opened its doors on 6 November 2019. Meanwhile, the Dutch supermarket chain has 36 stores here, including a Jumbo City urban store in Antwerp and, since the beginning of September, a large Jumbo Foodmarkt in Ghent. Before the end of the year, Jumbo will open another store in Denderleeuw.
‘We remain fully committed to the growth of Jumbo in Belgium, with new branches and by making even more Flemish people fans of Jumbo,’ says Peter Isaac, director of Jumbo Belgium. ‘Several new branches are already planned for next year and we see plenty of opportunities for further growth. Although it is not always an easy road, we are making substantial progress. Jumbo is growing faster in Belgium than the market. We have always believed in that. We now have a good rhythm to keep growing sustainably and our customer base is growing along with us.’
