Cyber criminals have attacked French hypermarket chain Auchan, stealing the personal details of 500,000 customers. The retailer also has many Belgian customers.
“Be vigilant”
The stolen customer data are linked to Auchan’s loyalty card, and include names, addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth. The retailer stresses that no payment details or passwords were captured by the hackers.
Auchan has reported the attack to authorities and to its customers. The company advises customers to be vigilant for suspicious emails, text messages or phone calls. Auchan’s hypermarket in Roncq is very popular with Belgian customers as it is very close to the border, so it is to be expected that a lot of Belgian customers may also have had their data stolen.
