Dutch brewery giant Heineken is going to build a large plant in the United Arab Emirates, planning to produce brands like Amstel, Heineken, Kingfisher and Birra Moretti from three years’ time.
More lenient on alcohol
Sirocco will be the name under which Heineken and Dubai-based Maritime and Mercantile International are planning the construction of a large brewery, starting at the end of next year.
The UAE are trying to monetise their growing status as tourist hub. The state has recently relaxed its rules regarding alcohol consumption, abolishing the 30 % tax on alcohol products as well as additional fees for a liquor licence.
