Belgian kitchen store chain Ixina has opened its first stores in Spain. After the expansion to Granada and Madrid, other stores will follow soon as the chain sees the potential in the Iberian country.
Scattered market
Ixina owner FBD International says that no other European country has built as many homes in the last thirty years as Spain. Still, the kitchen market is both mature and very scattered, the company explains the reasoning behind the expansion to French retail medium LSA.
The expansion has been three years in the making, with market analysis leading to an adaptation of the store concept to the circumstances in Spain. In the middle segment, the chain sees a lot of potential and not much competition. Moreover, not many kitchen chains are already active in Spain, with the market being dominated by smaller local players.
Ixina will first focus on Andalusia, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Madrid and the Valencian region. For three more stores, there already are concrete plans: two in Valencia and one in Andalusia. The target is set at fifty stores with an average turnover of 1.8 million euros.
