No more traditional lighting
From September onward, Ikea will only sell LED lighting, in every store all over the world. Those lights are 85 % more energy-efficient and have a longer life expectancy: “If 1 million people would replace one ordinary lamp with an LED light, it would mean reduced CO2 emissions equal to 3,900 fewer cars on the road on a yearly basis”, sustainability director Steve Howard said.
Another pinnacle of the company’s autumn press release is its “Democratic design” principle, “a method based on 5 dimensions, which we apply in every process: shape, quality, function, sustainability and low price”. These pillars will also be applied to its intention to increase the number of limited edition collections it will soon launch in the Benelux area. Up to ten designer collections are to be launched on a yearly basis, all focused on how “attention makes everything more beautiful”.
