Prada is looking into a possible acquisition of Versace, after a previous attempt to sell the fashion house failed last year. It may even come to a full takeover of its parent company Capri Holdings.
Second attempt
For Prada, Versace’s extravagant looks would complement its own – rather sleek – aesthetic. The Italian fashion house accounted for a fifth of Capri’s total group sales of 5.2 billion dollars in the last financial year, which ended on 30 March 2024.
The acquisition may even become a bigger deal though: according to Reuters, not only the sale of individual brands such as Versace and Jimmy Choo is among the possibilities. An acquisition deal for the whole Capri Holdings is also on the table, the news agency reports.
The sale plans follow the failure of a takeover by Coach owner Tapestry, which aborted an eight-billion-euro deal with Capri Holdings last year. Following that failed merger, Capri Holdings hired British bank Barclays to explore further strategic options.
