Unexpectedly, top executive Ton van Veen announced that he will leave Jumbo within a few months. The Dutch supermarket chain is launching the search for a successor.
‘Not an easy decision’
‘Leaving Jumbo was definitely not an easy decision for me to make, because after being intensively connected to Jumbo for more than 20 years, I have a big ‘yellow heart’. I have therefore discussed it extensively with the Supervisory Board and Jumbo owners family Van Eerd,’ the CEO explains in a press release.
‘This feels like a logical moment to hand over the baton. I do so with a sense of pride in what has been achieved and with confidence in the future of this wonderful family business. I am very grateful to the Van Eerd family for allowing me to embark on this adventure with them in 2004. I will stay on for the coming period to ensure a good handover.’
‘Continuing on the course set’
Van Veen had been financial director of the supermarket chain since 2004, deciding to step back and become vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board in 2022 but was asked by the family to return as CEO after top executive Frits van Eerd was compromised.
‘We are very grateful to Ton for the more than 20 years in which we worked side by side,’ says Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd. ‘We will continue on the strategic course as set out. Talks for a new CEO who will further shape this new phase have been initiated.’
