After a successful test, Cora is rolling out its collaboration with Too Good To Go to six Belgian hypermarkets. With that digital solution, the retailer can manage shelf life data more efficiently and reduce food waste.
Smart algorithm
The platform digitises best-before dates and ensures they are displayed in a structured way on employees’ PDAs. A smart algorithm compiles a list of products approaching their best-before date, arranged by rack according to their shelf life. In addition, based on preset and customisable rules, the platform advises each shop what to do with the products: for example, sell them at a reduced price in the shop with a discount sticker or add them to a Surprise Pack sold through the Too Good To Go app.
The efficiency gains are huge, Cora’s supply chain responsible Ronan Lambert points out: managing best-before dates and discounts can be time-consuming and error-prone, especially in large shops. “Our staff now only have to manually check 2 to 6 % of products and they know exactly where to intervene on the shelves. This saves them up to one hour per day per employee.”
The two companies have already been working together for six years in the fight against food waste. Too Good To Go’s Surprise Packs are available through the platform’s app, which has three million users in Belgium. In total, more than 33,000 Surprise Packs have already been saved at Cora Belgium in this way.
