Belgium is fifth European market
“The opening of our first store in Antwerp, an important and influential fashion city, is the start of Uniqlo’s expansion plans in the Benelux”, COO Takao Kuwahara said. “Uniqlo is already present in London, Paris, Moscow and Berlin and I am happy we have finally come to the point to expand our European success with a first store in Belgium.”
The 1,320 sqm store will have 2 floors and a mezzanine area for the men’s, women’s and children’s collections. Several well-known Antwerp-born people were added to Uniqlo’s “People Campaign” to help boost its first store in Belgium, including Bent Van Looy and hockey player Felix Denayer.
Founded in 1984, Japanese Uniqlo currently has more than 1,600 stores in 16 different countries. Its European presence currently consists of 26 stores in 4 countries: France, the United Kingdom, Russia and Germany.
