Profit from computer chips is waning
In the first quarter of 2015, Toshiba’s turnover reached 1.35 trillion yen (10 billion euro), with a 12.3 billion yen loss (90 million euro). THe consumer electronics division suffered a 20.7 billion yen (150 million euro) operational loss, while the component division – including the important computer chip industry – saw its profits drop 13 % to 35.6 billion yen (360 million euro).
It is the second time in quick succession that Toshiba has had to release weak results: the numbers of its previous fiscal year were delayed after an accounting scandal within Toshiba came to light. The investigation into that scandal is still on-going and there is a good chance the company will have to pay a hefty fine in the future.
