300 million Swiss francs
The new factory cost some 300 million Swiss francs (275 million euro), which has brought the total investment in production facilities since 2002 to 1.1 billion Swiss francs (1 billion euro). Its previous Nespresso facilities were built in 2002 and 2008.
Nestlé hopes this factory will help double the brand’s turnover, particularly thanks to North American growth. Last year, Nespresso had a 300 million Swiss francs turnover (275 million euro) in North America, on a total turnover of 5 billion Swiss francs (4.6 billion euro).
Capsules and coffee pads represent nearly 40 % of the North American coffee market, but Keurig’s Green Mountain Coffee dominates the premium market. Nestlé now hopes to break that dominance with a regionally-adjusted product range.
