With the official opening of the web platform Amazon.ie, Irish consumers will have access to faster deliveries, easier returns and local prices. They will also be relieved of red tape.
200 million products
Until recently, Irish online shoppers were usually redirected to the amazon.co.uk website, but since the Brexit that became problematic: many merchants decided to stop delivering because of the huge administrative hassle and consumers faced high import duties.
That is off the table: from now on, Irish people will have access to a range of 200 million products at low prices in euros, says Amazon. Deliveries will be faster, returns will be easier. As in other countries, Amazon.ie is launching a ‘Brands of Ireland’ section to highlight local brands.
Amazon has been operating in Ireland for more than 20 years and employs about 6,500 people in branches in Cork, Dublin and Drogheda.
