Lenovo is market leader
73.7 million computers were sold in the third quarter, down 7.7 % compared to last year. Market researchers Gartner and IDC say Windows 10’s impact has been minimal, but both still feel the market can recover when new devices are launched.
Chinese Lenovo is still the world’s market leader when it comes to computer sales, taking up 20.3 % of the market. American Hewlett-Packard is a close second, with an 18.5 % market share, while Dell is a distant third with 13.8 % of the market. Apple takes up the fourth spot, although it barely sells half of what number three manages to sell.
Computer sales have been dwindling for a while now, thanks to the growing popularity of tablets and smartphones. The latter have become increasingly powerful and are able to perform more tasks, taking away functionality that had been the domain of the personal computer up until that point. That is exactly why a smaller number of consumers feel the need to acquire a computer.
