Setback in Asia
Carrefour’s third quarter turnover reached 21.5 billion euro, up 2.2 % compared to last year. In its home territory, France, turnover grew 2.3 % to 10.3 billion euro, while turnover elsewhere grew 2.2 %. Over the first three quarters, the company’s turnover even grew 4.1 % to 63.9 billion euro.
Its hypermarkets and supermarkets in France did slightly worse, but its other formulas easily countered that with a 25 % turnover increase. However, when like-for-like turnover is considered, both the supermarkets and the hypermarkets did actually achieve turnover growth at 2.5 and 0.7 % respectively.
Best in the European class on a like-for-like basis in the third quarter are Spain (+ 4.6 %) and Italy (+ 5.9 %), while Belgian like-for-like turnover also grew 2.7 %. Like-for-like growth in the European region (excluding France) therefore grew 4.2 %. Latin American like-for-like turnover even grew 11.7 %, while Asia experienced a 7.5 % drop.
