Invest in online
Dutch Rabobank says first quarter online wine sales in the United Kingdom grew 11 %, while total wine sales only grew 3.5 %. A previous study had already confirmed worldwide online wine sales increased 700 % since 2006. According to the bank’s study, the growing online sales are mostly thanks to changing consumer behaviour: the current generations drink more wine and is more used to buying something online.
Analysts do warn however that wine sellers have to do more than simply be present online to actually generate online sales: they will have to invest to make it more successful. One way is to use social media, but they can also offer the consumer several services to facilitate the choice of the perfect wine.
