Competition from Apple and Chinese brands
He will not be asked to leave Samsung, but will get another position within the company. In his new role, he will consider Samsung’s long-term smartphone and tablet strategy. His successor, Koh Dong Jin, was already part of the mobile division, where he had been vice-president of the research & development division.
“Koh has knowledge about a lot of domains, including mobile solutions and service development. With that knowledge, he will create a new breakthrough in the mobile market”, Samsung said.
Samsung’s internal changes are a reaction to the weaker sales within the industry. Within the luxury segment of the market, Samsung failed to compete with Apple, even after it had announced the Samsung Galaxy S6. In the lower end of the market, Chinese brands like Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo have proven to be tough competitors.
