Largest Japanese brewer
A Japanese paper believes the acquisition may be finalized as early as this week for a sum of 400 billion yen (3.1 billion euro). If proven true, the two beer brands would become part of the largest beer brewer in Japan.
However, the company is not the only one interested in a Grolsch and Peroni acquisition, as Spanish beer brewer Mahou-San Miguel and investment fund KKR may also make a move for both brands. A joint-bid by Heineken and Danish Carlsberg may also still be an option.
SABMiller wants to sell both brands, as it wants to avoid any antitrust issues when its merger with Belgian-Brazilian AB InBev needs to be finalized.
