“Because it’s fun…”
The FindTheEggs-game uses Google Maps
Street View: participants have to go to the special website and enter their home address. From there their virtual hunt begins, in
the vicinity of the consumers’ homes.
The Tesco Easter bunny has hidden
half a million of these virtual eggs, which can be found using an ‘eggdar’.
If you find three, you can print out a voucher, which can be exchanged for a
real Easter egg at a Tesco-store near you. The chain has provided half a million real eggs
for this stunt. The lucky 53 finders of a golden egg, are the lucky winner of
a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet.
The official reason for Tesco’s Easter game is “because it’s
Easter and because it’s fun”, but the real reason is quite straightforward: “get people to come to our stores for a free gift, and (hopefully) watch them leave with a cart full of groceries…”
