The Body Shop launched a worldwide initiative to drastically lower the use of plastic packaging based on fossil fuels by 2020.
Lower negative impact
“We would like to lower our negative impact on the planet. To do so, we want to radically alter the way we buy and sell and the way our customers use our products. Alongside international experts, we are working on a project that will make sure that 70 % of our products will no longer contain plastic created by fossil fuels by 2020″, sustainability director Christopher Davis said.
At first, the company will collaborate with Newlight Technologies, an American company that uses AirCarbon, a plastic based on methane and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, eliminating any need for fossil fuels.
“We hope our collaboration in Newlight’s research will allow us to help increase packaging’s efficiency as an international company. This way, we can offer a new way to buy and use The Body Shop products, while the perceived value of our materials and packaging is improved.”
