While we fear our shopping centers are too large, filled with vacant lots, China goes for big. The New Century Global Centre shopping centre in Chengdu is the world’s largest building in the world.
Water park with beach
The shopping center’s total surface spans 1.9 million sqm, three times as large as the Pentagon and twice as large as Aalsmeer’s flower auction. Not only does it contains stores, but you could spend a day or a weekend there. It has a hotel, an Imax theater, a huge aquarium and a water park with a 300m beach. An awe-inspiring amount of marble was used to create the shopping center’s interior.
The question remains whether the shopping center is not just too large for the crowd that has to cover huge distances. It seems virtually impossible to visit each and every store in a single day. If you are like us and cannot fathom the sheer size of this place, the clip below may tickle your fantasy.
