Godfried Brenninkmeijer, who was in control of clothing store chain C&A’s Dutch division in the 70’s and 80’s, passed away. The Brenninkmeijer family founded C&A in 1841 and still owns the chain.
Chairman of the board in the Netherlands
Godfried’s great-grandfather, August, launched a fabric warehouse in 1841, alongside his brother Clemens. As time passed, C&A would become a major chain in several countries, like the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France.
Godfried Brenninkmeijer was chairman of the board in the Netherlands until 1988. He passed away on 17 July, aged 83, in the Swiss city of Ascona.
“For many years, mister Godfried skilfully led C&A Netherlands with boundless dedication“, the current board said about his passing. “His personality and business sense will be an example to us all.”
