Chinese Alibaba wants to connect to 1 or 2 countries, to investigate how a global eCommerce network could turn out to be in the future. Founder Jack Ma hopes other parties are willing to back the project.
Long-term plan
With the global platform, Jack Ma hopes to shed online borders between different countries, especially as both major players and smaller, local partie should have access. However, a framework for all sort of rates and logistic support needs to be drafted. The largest difference with the World Trade Organization is that companies will take charge of the new platform.
Alibaba’s founder understands it is not possible to quickly launch such a platform and he intends to spend several years working to expand it. He does not necessarily want Alibaba to own the platform, but he does want to be a part of it. He hopes other major companies, like Amazon, will back the idea and help create it.
The first preliminary talks should take place after the G20 and B20 meetings, taking place in September in Hangzhou, China.
