In September, Metro Group will launch a pilot program in Düsseldorf, Germany, to see whether robots can deliver online Media Markt deliveries. The move sets it apart from competitors who are experimenting with drone deliveries.
Fast and cheap
The robot is a six-wheeled car, which uses 9 cameras to navigate the city safely. At first, someone will also follow the robot, in order to intervene when necessary or to answer any questions.
It will be used for all customers within a 5-kilometer radius in the Grafenberg district of Düsseldorf. Metro Group hopes this robot will become a cheap and speedy way to deliver online deliveries. German eCommerce holding Otto Group also plans to use the same robot in the near future.
Other companies, like Amazon or Deutsche Post, believe drones are the future of deliveries, with plenty of pilot programs to see the effect.
