Amazon will launch a meal delivery service in London, catered to bring restaurant meals to its Amazon Prime Now subscribers. The move pits it against competitors like Deliveroo and Just Eat, in a highly competitive market.
Delivery within the hour
Prime customers who live in certain areas of London will be able to order food from chains like Baltic Restaurant, Crazy Bear, Archipelago and Benares using their Prime Now app.
“London offers some of the best cuisine from around the world, so we’re delighted that Amazon Prime customers can now enjoy food from their favourite restaurants via Amazon’s ultra-fast Prime Now service,” said Al Wilkinson, UK Head of Amazon Restaurants, Amazon. “Our team have hand-picked a selection of the best quality local restaurants in London.”
London is not the first city to receive Amazon’s home delivery service, because it launched a similar service in September 2015 in its home city of Seattle. After that, it added New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego, Austin, Atlanta, Miami, Baltimore and Portland. However, it is the very first time the company expanded its service’s reach outside of the United States.
Just like with all other Prime Now orders, Amazon promises to deliver all meals within the hour. Currently, the average delivery time is 45 minutes, the company claims.
