Dutch store chain HEMA continues its European expansion with its fourth store in the Spanish capital, Madrid. It is its fifth Spanish store overall, with another two arriving soon.
Pick up expansion pace
Matthijs van Bonzel, the Dutch ambassador to Spain, officially opened this new 333 sqm store, based on HEMA’s international formula. CEO Tjeerd Jegen added: “The Spanish market is a very promising one for HEMA. The entrepreneurial spirit, the highly qualified populace and the support from the Spanish authorities play a pivotal part in our approach here.” With this store, HEMA kicks off another step in its Spanish expansion: a fifth store in Madrid is planned for early 2017, just like a second one in Barcelona – the seventh Spanish store overall.
Not only Spain is appealing to the Dutch company, because it has major plans for every one of its foreign markets. For instance, Germany can expect another HEMA store in Cologne at the end of January 2017, while the chain will also continue its expansion in France – where it already has a plethora of stores – and in the United Kingdom, where it has extended its reach outside of London
