Italian glass brand Safilo, part of the Dutch HAL group, has developed glasses with built-in technology and will present those during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which will take place early next year, from 5 to 8 January.
Help with mental focus
The new glasses will be launched under the Smith brand name, which is Safilo’s own. The company did not reveal many details about the glasses, but said they do contain technology that can detect brain waves and help with mental focus, in order to improve performances and the wearer’s personal wellbeing.
The glasses are made in collaboration with Canadian Interaxon, a company that has already launched a headband that detected and visualized brain activity to make emotions “visible”.
Safilo is not the first glasses brand to implement technology: Luxottica joined forces with Intel in October 2015 to launch glasses called Pace Oakley Rader, which had an integrated coaching system for athletes.
