German shoe brand Birkenstock launched a collection of beds at a Cologne furniture convention. Similar to its shoes, the beds contain a lot of cork and latex.
Natural shape of the body
“The Birkenstock principles for walking and standing are now being applied to lying and sleeping comfort. Just as the Birkenstock footbed fits the natural form of the foot, the form of these sleep systems is attuned to the entire body. Their exceptional support ensures healthy and restful sleep.”, the brand says.
Its six beds, all named after a city, were co-created by the Ergenomie Institut München (Ergonomy Institute in Munich) and Austrian furniture manufacturer ADA. They all consist of three elements: a base, a two-layered mattress and a surrounding frame. They come in different styles which should make them appropriate for a varied range of interiors. Fans of the brand can definitely see a link to the brand’s shoes in some of the designs.
