American chains Sears and Kmart have pulled about 30 Trump Home products. They have released a statement saying these items were not selling enough and that both chains wish to focus on more profitable products.
President not satisfied
These are not the first two companies to withdraw Trump items from their product range: Nordstrom already decided to pull the Ivanka Trump clothing brand, also citing weak sales. Financial results showed that sales had dropped 70 % in October, compared to the year before. The drop was even before the presidential elections on 8 November.
President Trump was hardly impressed by Nordstrom’s decision and even labeled it a “personal attack on his daughter”. His advisor, Kellyanne Conway even unabashedly promoted the brand in an interview, breaking a law that prohibits the White House to use its influence to advertize. Surprisingly enough, Nordstrom’s share skyrocketed after Trump’s attack.
It seems highly likely that Sears, Kmart and Nordstrom will not be the only companies forced to decide whether they want to sell items related to Trump.
