In Germany, DHL will become Amazon‘s exclusive logistics partner when it will start delivering Amazon Fresh orders at home in Berlin next month, with the remainder of Germany soon to follow.
DHL bid could not be refused
German Handelsblatt writes that DHL’s offer was financially too appealing for Amazon to refuse. Amazon Fresh will launch with a modest product range, but expand it rapidly, similarly to what it did in other countries: launch in the country’s capital and expand later on. DHL is not the only recently revealed partner for Amazon Fresh, because supermarket chain Tegut will become a supplier in Germany.
Amazon Fresh is not DHL Germany’s first online supermarket, because Allyouneed Fresh is already part of DHL’s network. The delivery service had already stated previously it was willing to attract new partners, like it just did with Amazon Fresh.
Amazon Pantry
In the fall of 2016, Amazon also launched Amazon Fresh in the United Kingdom, equally starting in a small area: the capital London. It also has a deal with supermarket chain Morrisons, which means part of its product range is now available on Amazon. Rumours also indicate that Amazon is looking for store space in London, allegedly to open a physical supermarket.
Amazon Fresh is not yet available in Belgium and the Netherlands, but it did launch Amazon Pantry in Belgium, which delivers dry food at home to its Amazon Prime members.
