Coffee and tea manufacturer Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) managed to become profitable again last year, a huge improvement compared to 2015 when it suffered a 245 million euro.
Growth thanks to acquisitions
JDE’s 2016 turnover reached 5.2 billion euro and its profit was 82 million euro. This was a marked improvement over 2015 when it suffered losses as it integrated Mondelez’ acquired coffee branch according to JDE’s filings with the Chamber of Commerce.
Turnover also increased considerably compared to its 4 billion euro turnover in 2015. Thanks to several acquisitions, turnover in 2016 grew more than 25 %. Ever since investment firm Joh. A. Benckiser, Dutch coffee manufacturer Douwe Egberts serves as the ideal platform to acquire other brands. Last year, it obtained American Keurig Green Mountain, BrewGroup from New Zealand and Super Group from Singapore.
Its largest acquisition was Mondelez’ coffee division, doubling Douwe Egberts’ size in a single instance.
