Amazon joined forces with Hyperloop One to see whether a hyperloop, an idea by Tesla founder Elon Musk, can be used to transport goods for same-day delivery.
Tube mail
A hyperloop sends capsules through low-pressure tubes at high speeds, an idea similar to tube mail which sends small packages through tubes, but this would be at a much larger scale.
Amazon is now allegedly working with Hyperloop One to create something that could turn this idea into a reality. Hyperloop One has been working on the commercial application of hyperloop transport for a while, both for products and for people, and Amazon is a strong partner to have.
Hyperloop wants to create a worldwide system, which should send people or goods around at 1,000 km per hour. A San Francisco – Los Angeles trip, two cities that are about 600 km apart, should therefore be reduced to about thirty minutes.
