‘Enriched’ Pinterest aims at businesses
Until now Pinterest was mainly a platform for users to show their interests by ‘pinning’ their favourites on a digital board. Other people can then choose to follow that board.
Now Pinterest has developed an additional service, which allows pictures to be ‘enriched’ with information such as prices, availability and the place where the product can be bought. Users can use that picture on their board, if they so choose.
Pinterest notifies users
When a followed product changes its price, the user can instantly be notified about the change. You can compare it to an auction site, where an interested party can get a message when something changes. The new service also makes it more interesting for businesses to be active on Pinterest.
That is why Pinterest has developed ‘rich pins’. They currently exist in three ceategories: films (with information on director, cast and viewer ratings), recipes (including ingredients, cooking time and the number of people for whom the meal is suited) and products (prices, availability and locations where it is sold). The site has already announced more rich pins will be added in the future.
The conversion rate on Pinterest is said to be twice as high as on Facebook. This is because users on Pinterest have a closer connection with the products they follow than people on Facebook.
