Less than 1 percent British
The BBC-requested tests showed that less than one percent of pork chops,
labeled as British meat, actually came from Great Britain. Generally,
it turned out to be Dutch meat. Tesco stated it is “extremely
disappointed” and that it has told its supplier that “this
mistake is unacceptable”.
Tesco
buys its meat from Cranswick Country Goods, who in turn purchases
from FA Gill. This family-run business from Wolverhampton is the
supposed source of the meat, but it denies bringing meat in from the
Netherlands, as it “does not deal with Dutch meat”. Cranswick
added that later tests had not revealed any problems of this nature.
