Beter Bed Holding’s third quarter turnover grew 3.3 %, performing well in every market aside from Germany. It still faces the aftermath of a poison-related issue there.
Drop in Germany
Th company’s third quarter turnover reached 105.4 million euro, but its growth was dented by German issues. Turnover dropped 2.8 % (and 3.6 % on a like-for-like basis) in Beter Bed Holding’s largest market. Other companies also suffered drops in Germany.
Beter Bed’s German issues stem from a problem at chemical company BASF: a hazardous material entered mattresses and pillows. Beter Bed’s German chain, Matratzen Concord, decided to counter that with targeted marketing in order to get visitor levels back on track.
Beter Bed performed well in other markets with turnover increases in Austria (+ 2 %), Spain (+ 2.5 %) and Switzerland (+ 1 %). There were huge surges in Sweden (+ 32.1 %) and Belgium (34.4 %).
