Amazon Germany’s employees chose Black Friday to strike, demanding more pay and improved labour conditions. It will continue its strike until Saturday evening.
Improved wages and labour conditions
Everyone who bought something in Amazon’s German web shop during Black Friday, may have to wait a bit longer before the order arrives. Labour union Verdi asked the employees to strike on Black Friday, which is one of eCommerce’s prime days. This is also bad news for Belgian and Dutch customers, because local distribution also comes from Germany.
Staff in Amazon Germany’s six major distribution centers want to draw attention to its demand to get better wages and labour conditions. Verdi has been fighting Amazon for years, with strikes as one of its tactics. According to the labour union, Black Friday should be the ideal day for Amazon to reward its staff, especially considering how active the holiday season will be.
The strike will end Saturday evening. There is also a strike in Piacenza, Amazon’s most important distribution center in Italy, but only a part of the staff has decided to go on strike there.
