Online fashion store Zalando has acquired a minority stake in the German start-up Magazino, which is currently developing robotic solutions for e-commerce distribution centers.
20 million euro
Magazino’s robots have a range of sensors and software that enables to work in a distribution center. Their task is to relieve employees of the physically more demanding jobs. “Logistics is one of our prime jobs”, Zalando’s David Schröder said. “We believe that bringing employees together with advanced technology will lead us to the best results. Our Magazino investment grants us access to innovative technology, highly compatible with our current infrastructure. It can also be used in a flexible manner to support our employees in distribution centers.”
Alongside tech company Körber and Fiege Logistik, Zalando will invest 20 million euro in Magazino. Siemens Innovative Ventures already acquired a 49 % stake in Magazino back in 2015.
