SPACE10, furniture giant Ikea’s innovation lab, will present a healthy alternative to the classic hamburger, where the meat is replaced by red beets and mealworm. It is also working on a “dogless hotdog”;
Mealworm burger
Ikea presented its Veggie Dog last month, a vegan hotdog that will be available here in the summer. Next up is the Bug Burger, a healthy spin on the classic hamburger. The newcomer in Ikea’s food range will replace its beef with a mixture of 100 grams of red beet, 50 grams of parsnip, 50 grams of potato and 50 grams of mealworm, the night beetle’s larvae. It will be served on a white bun with a side of radish, red beet, berry ketchup, chives spread and a mixture of salad.
It is not the first time SPACE10 presents vegetarian and vegan alternatives. It revealed vegetarian Swedish balls several years ago, a dish that has permeated each of Ikea restaurants’ product range.
