Cross-border e-commerce on
the rise
The majority of its 1,000 collection points are newspaper stands, gas stations, local convenience stores and florists,
with home delivery also being offered by DPD.
DPD is German Geopost’s subsidiary, which in turn has to report to La Poste in
France. In a press release, DPD has stated it wants to take advantage of the increasing trend of cross-border e-commerce. As
the consumer is becoming used to e-trade, he will more frequently purchase
items with foreign suppliers.
The 5,000 German and 6,500 French
collection points will be integrated in the same network sometime next year.
“As a result, Benelux packages can be sent to France and Germany and the other
way around”, DPD confirms.
Clashing with bpost and
PostNL
Up to this point, DPD has been focusing on sending packages in the B2B market, but managing director Marc Morioux has
confirmed the company will now head into
the growing B2C market. The move bumps the French
mail company into the path of bpost and PostNL, who have both underlined the strategic
importance packages hold for the future of traditional mail companies.
DPD currently has 24,000
employees working in 800 locations, apparently sending out 2.5 million packages per day worldwide.
