German concept store chain Kauf Dich Glücklich will open its first non-German store in Amsterdam soon. Shoppers will be able to enjoy a mixture of interior design, cosmetics and fashion, all in Scandinavian style. Antwerp will soon follow.
First Amsterdam, then Antwerp
Kauf Dich Glücklich represents Scandinavian inspired concept stores, with furnitures, fashion and cosmetics. The chain, founded in 2002 in Berlin by creative duo Andrea Dahmen and Christoph Munier, currently has twenty stores and two bars in Germany and Austria.
The duo will open a first store in Amsterdam on 31 May, a dream come true for Dahmen: “Our meeting room in Berlin refers to this cosmopolitan city. Obviously, there are many similarities between Amsterdam and Berlin: they are both creative cities in an environment we love and where we feel at home.” The entrepreneurs are also considering a store in Antwerp.
Scandinavia design and humour
Kauf Dich Glücklich was originally a combination of a waffle and ice cream parlour and interior design store, considering the founders’ passion for vintage furniture. In the meantime, the concept stores’ product range spans interior design products, cosmetics and fashion. Brands that focus on the Scandinavian style, like Vila, MbyM, Nowadays and Mads Norgaard, are all present, but the chain also has its own label.
The new store’s interior has to exude “feel good”, with a Scandinavian-typed interior and a sense of humour. “When we came to look at this store, we fell in love instantly. The store has large windows and feels like Berlin – not entirely polished with some rough edges”, Muller said.
