Expanding its services
The company’s Groupon Goods and Groupon Reserve gain prominence, with the
latter (created in 2011) offering
discounts based on your restaurant reservations. Clients do not need to buy a
voucher beforehand, as was the habit with Groupon’s other deals.
Groupon Goods on the other
hand focuses on selling regular products,
instead of relying on deals with certain retailers. Groupon Getaways
focuses on travels, while GrouponLive targets concert and other event tickets.
Groupon Freebies
The newest addition to the line-up is Groupon Freebies, where customers can
get coupons and free samples for
particular products. The coupons are only valid for online purchases and
have to be (mainly) spent with large national chains in the United States.
“Groupon has shifted its model, it is now basically an online shopping mall,”
says Peter Krasilovsky, an analyst with BIA/Kelsey. “The daily deals are still
part of that shopping model, but so are online coupons as well as other product
types and tools.”
