Fashion as a weapon against the
crisis
The French couturier presented a festive collection at Parisian restaurant
Maxim’s, which he has owned since 1981. 90
outfits were geared towards women, while men could gawk at 40 outfits. The
entire collection was dubbed “Maxim’s la nuit”. “We live in depressive times
and I felt like creating some happiness with this festive collection”.
Cardin had “happy, dancing
people” in mind when designing the collection. He called on his wealthy fellow
citizens to “spend money so that others
can work”. He added that “whatever I do, has a social dimension”.
Sports collection on the horizon
Pierre Cardin’s last haute couture show dates back to 1997,
in Paris. In 2011, he had announced that his firm was for sale, but up until
today, nothing has happened. “Considering my age, I will have to sell some day,
but the price will be high. My name is worth more than one billion euro. I was
an accountant, therefore I know how to count.”
He also announced he wanted to create
a sports collection. He added he had no intention of retiring, as “work is
my life, my happiness. As long as I am able to, I will continue. I will definitely have a successor.”
