(content provided by EuroCommerce) The European Commission told EU Member States and stakeholders at the Eco-design Consultation Forum last week that a number of new energy label regulations were still not ready and their adoption (initially planned for November 2018) will be delayed until December this year or January 2019.
Relabelling period extended
Two draft implementing acts – for lighting products and household fridges – were, however ready and were in inter-service consultation within the Commission. This would end on 31 August, and stakeholders would have the opportunity to comment again before the Commission goes forward with adopting the revised regulations. The new draft on lighting products specifies the relabelling period for lighting products to be extended from 1 to at least 9 months.
The Commission also reported on progress on the online product registration database required to be in place by 1 January 2019 under the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation. Preparations were on schedule and testing of the system expected to start in September 2018.
