Marc Croonen will leave the Management Board of the Ahold Delhaize group on 1 November. He is Chief Sustainability, Transformation and Communications Officer and the last Belgian in the company’s Management Board.

Croonen joined Delhaize in May 2014. Before that, he was active at Danone, AB InBev, Volkswagen and Dexia, among others. CEO Frans Muller states in a press release that Croonen “helped shape and drive our aspiration to be a leading sustainable retailer, installing clear and tangible targets to measure our progress. We have significantly improved in the core areas in which we know we can make the biggest impact in our brands and communities: increasing vitality through healthier food, reducing food waste and running an inclusive business. Marc’s leadership also played a key role in building our corporate brand and reputation, making our workplaces even safer, and in ensuring a smooth transformation after the merger. He leaves the company ready for its next phase. We wish him all the best in the future.”
With Croonen, the last remaining Belgian disappears from the Management Board of the group – three years after the Ahold + Delhaize merger was pitched as a “merger between two equals”. Two Belgians however still reside in the company’s Supervisory Board: Jacques de Vaucleroy (a descendant of the Delhaize family) and Proximus CEO Dominique Leroy.
