Delivery cost equals cab fare
The pilot program started in August 2013 in Hamburg. Customers of two
different Media Markt stores could get
their online orders delivered at home within the hour with a taxi. It was
a collaboration with MyTaxi, a cab company that also allows customers to order taxis
with a mobile app. Now they
can also get rides for their packages.
The customer only has to pay the cab
fare when the package gets delivered. MyTaxi founder, Sven Külper, told
German Internetworld that the fare usually is not any higher than with DHL or
UPS. The biggest advantage is that it gets delivered within the hour.
MyTaxi currently has some 45,000 taxis in 40 German cities, aside from Vienna,
Graz, Salzburg, Zurich, Barcelona, Warsaw and Washington. There was another
pilot program in Austria between Media Saturn and MyTaxi and it is highly probable the service will
expand into Austria as well. From February onwards, every German can use
MyTaxi to get packages delivered.
