A few years after expanding to Belgium, Dutch chain Albert Heijn has now also launched its app in Belgium, showing customers recipes and discounts.
Loyalty card and shopping list
‘Appie’, as Albert Heijn’s app is called, offers customers easy access to discounts, flyers and a shopping list. Moreover, the latter can be rearranged according to the walking route through your local supermarket. Another point of interest is the collection of 17,000 recipes that aim to answer the question “What do you want to eat tonight?”.
Still, the Belgian version of the app offers fewer possibilities than its Dutch sister. The latter has a digital coupon card and can be used as a self-scanning device in the store, two options that are not possible yet in Belgium. Appie has been a huge success in the Netherlands, being downloaded by almost one in five citizens (more than three million downloads) since its launch in 2009.
